Freshman Brooks Hall scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Flyers to a 62-50 win over Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon at the UD Arena. Senior Mark Ashman posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Flyers opened the Atlantic 10 season with a win and equal their win total from last season in the same game.

Junior Tony Stanley gave a glimpse of things to come just 15 seconds into the game with a steal and a dunk to open the scoring. The Hokies scored the next two baskets to take their only lead of the game at 4-2, but Hall quickly answered with the first of his four treys of the weekend. Dayton would push the lead to as much as 10 on an Ashman free throw with 1:43 left in the half, but Virginia Tech knocked down four straight free throws to draw to 29-23 at the break.

Dayton managed to shoot just 26% from the field in the second period, opening a door for the Hokies. Virginia Tech got to the threshold at 41-41 with 7:12 left to play, but back-to-back treys from Tony Stanley and Hall all but closed the door on the Hokies hopes and Hall's final three of the evening shut it for good.

Stanley was just behind Hall with 12 points. Sophomore Yuanta Holland continued to play well for the Flyers adding seven points and nine boards and sophomore point guard David Morris finished with nine points and five assists.

Brian Chase led all scorers with 15 points in the Hokies losing effort. Dennis Mims had 12 points and eight boards, while Tech's star forward Rolan Roberts added 10 points and nine boards. Dayton improves to 11-2 overall and 1-0 in A-10 play while Virginia Tech falls to 6-7 and 0-2 in conference play.

The Hokies will be back in action Wednesday night when they host Duquesne at 7:00 p.m at Cassell Coliseum.
