Hokies Fall at Miami, 85-65
Matthews leads Tech with 22 points

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Miami broke open a close game in the second half and defeated Virginia Tech, 85-65, in BIG EAST Conference men's basketball action Tuesday night at the Convocation Center. Tech falls to 10-12 overall and 3-6 in league play, while the Hurricanes improve to 10-10 overall and 3-6 in BIG EAST action.
The game was close throughout the first half and the Hurricanes took a 37-33 lead into intermission. Miami then opened the second half on a 30-12 run and never trailed in the final period.
Junior forward Bryant Matthews led the Hokies with 22 points and six rebounds, while senior center Terry Taylor added 15 points and six boards. Senior guard Eric Branham added six points and dished out a team-high five assists. Miami junior forward Darius Rice led all scorers with 32 points.
Tech junior guard Carlos Dixon injured his left foot with six minutes remaining in the first half and did not return to action. His foot was x-rayed during the game and he will be re-evaluated on Wednesday by Virginia Tech team physicians.
The Hokies return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15, as they host Georgetown at 4 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
