Men's Basketball Struggles against Temple

Hokies lose to the Owls at home, 78-48.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Lamont Barnes scored nine of his 12 points and blocked two shots in the first 12 minutes Tuesday as Temple opened the game with a 27-8 run en route to a 78-48 victory over Virginia Tech.

Rasheed Brockenborough scored seven of his 17 points in the run, and Jaun Sanchez added eight of his 13 as the Owls (17-8, 11-2 Atlantic 10) cruised to a 37-17 halftime lead. Virginia Tech (10-13, 5-8) trailed by as many as 32 in the second half.

Mark Karcher added 17 points for Temple.

Brendan Dunlop had 17 points to lead the Hokies, who shot a woeful 30.6 percent (19-for-62) from the field, including 26.1 percent (6-for-23) from 3-point range. The Owls, meanwhile, were 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the field, 45 percent (9-for-20) on 3-pointers.

The Owls forced 18 Hokie turnovers and blocked six shots.
