PROVIDENCE, R.I. - #25 Providence defeated Virginia Tech, 96-56, in BIG EAST men's basketball action Tuesday night at the Providence Civic Center.

The Friars made their first 11 shots on the evening and did not trail after the 18:32 mark. Providence shot 65.4% from the field in the first half and led 55-33 at intermission.

Brian Chase led the Hokies with 12 points, on 4-8 from three-point range. Abdul Mills scored 20 points to lead four Friars in double figures.

The Hokies wrap up the home portion of the 2000-2001 season on Saturday, as they host #18 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon in Cassell Coliseum. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
