BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Rolan Roberts had 17 points, and David Whaley added a career-high 13 Saturday as Virginia Tech beat Duquesne 81-60, the Dukes' 19th loss in their past 20 games.

The Hokies (12-14, 7-9) led 38-23 at the half after finishing out the half with a 19-6 run, limiting Duquesne (5-22, 1-15) to six free throws over the final 8:28. The Dukes were a woeful to 6-for-23 (26.1 percent) from the floor in the opening half, but cut the lead to eight twice in the second half before the Hokies pulled away.

Brendan Dunlop and Eddie Lucas added 10 points apiece for the Hokies.

Courtney Wallace led the Dukes with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Wayne Smith had 16 points, hitting only 4 of 17 from the field.

The Hokies blocked a season-high 11 shots with Dennis Mims, Alvaro Tor and Roberts rejecting three apiece as Virginia Tech won for the sixth time in its last nine games.
