RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia Tech forward Bryant Matthews has been selected first team all-state by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.
Matthews, a junior from Columbia, S.C., led the Hokies in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocked shots. He is the first player in BIG EAST Conference history to accomplish that feat. In the season finale at West Virginia, Matthews became the 33rd player in Virginia Tech history to score 1,000 career points. He registered double figures in all 16 BIG EAST games and 27 of the team's 29 games during the season. He averaged 17.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game this past season.
The Hokies finished the 2002-03 season 11-18 overall and 4-12 in BIG EAST Conference action.
