BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech men's basketball program led all NCAA Division I schools in the average home attendance increase for the 2004-05 season, in figures released by the NCAA statistics office.
The Hokies averaged 9,405 in the 2004-05 season, up from 6,342 the previous season. The change in average was 3,063, far out-distancing runner-up Washington, at 2,110. Tech was sixth nationally in attendance increase during the 2003-04 season.
"I think this shows the tremendous support and passion the Hokie Nation has for their university," head coach Seth Greenberg said. "It's obviously a reflection on the ACC and the excitement it has brought to our campus."
Virginia Tech announced sellouts for all eight Atlantic Coast Conference games in the 2004-05 season, as well as sell-outs for three non-conference match-ups. Fellow ACC newcomer Miami was fourth overall in attendance increase, at 1,830 per game and 2005-06 ACC entrant Boston College was 13th, at 1,197.
The Hokies finished 50th overall in attendance for the 2004-05 season, fifth-best among ACC schools. The ACC was second, trailing just the Big Ten, in conference attendance, at 11,097 per game.
