Odom to Address Hokie Hoops Clinic
South Carolina coach to speak Oct. 23-24

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- University of South Carolina head men's basketball coach Dave Odom will be one of the guest speakers at the 2004 Virginia Tech Coaches Clinic Oct. 23-24 at Cassell Coliseum.

The two-day event will feature on-floor coaching demonstrations by Virginia Tech head coach Seth Greenberg and staff during practice and scrimmage sessions. Also, there will be a Saturday evening chalk-talk and social with Greenberg and his staff and individual player development workouts at the clinic. In-service credit hours are available for high school coaches.

Odom and Wofford College head men's basketball coach Mike Young will be guest speakers at the clinic. Odom is in his third season as head coach of the Gamecocks, following 12 successful seasons as the head coach at Wake Forest and he was also head coach at East Carolina. Odom, the father of Virginia Tech assistant coach Ryan Odom, was on the same Terry Holland staff with Greenberg at Virginia in the mid-1980s. Odom was the 2004 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year.

Young is in his third season as the head coach of the Terriers, following 13 seasons as an assistant at the Spartanburg, S.C. school. A native of Radford, Va., Young graduated from Emory & Henry in 1986 and was an assistant coach at his alma mater following graduation.

The clinic is open to all area high school, AAU and youth league coaches. Cost of the clinic is $50 for head coaches and $40 for each assistant coach, including a clinic shirt.
