LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Rolan Roberts had 17 points, 10 rebounds and two
blocks, and Eddie Lucas added another 17 points Tuesday as Virginia Tech beat
Liberty 85-51.
The Hokies (2-1) had a 57-30 rebounding advantage, which included 27
offensive boards. Liberty (1-3) was unable to protect the ball, turning it over
23 times, 14 on Hokie steals.
Tech led 42-19 at the half and never let the Flames back in the game.
Jermaine Kimbrough had 14 points for the Hokies, while Dennis Mims scored 12
points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked two shots in 21 minutes of play. Russ
Wheeler added 10 rebounds. Tech finished with six blocks.
Chris Caldwell had 15 points to lead the Flames, while Delawn Grandison
added 13.
Lucas was deadly on 3-pointers, hitting 3-for-4, while Brendan Dunlop led
the Hokies with seven assists and six steals.
Liberty shot 36.8 percent (21-for-57) from the field and was a woeful
1-for-6 (16.7 percent) from the line. The Hokies shot only 47.4 percent
(9-for-19) from the line and was 35-for-77 (45.5 percent) from the field.
