Men's Basketball Falls to UNC-Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (AP) - Galen Young scored 19 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead North Carolina-Charlotte to a 62-57 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday.

The 49ers (4-2) trailed 34-28 at halftime but held the Hokies (3-2) to 26-percent shooting in the second half to rally for the victory.

Tremaine Gardiner added 10 points for Charlotte, while Brendan Dunlop and Rolan Roberts both scored 15 for Virginia Tech.

Both teams went 12-for-28 from the field in the first half and took 11 3-point attempts, but the Hokies hit five 3-pointers, compared to Charlotte's four, and hit five of six free throws while denying the 49ers a trip to the foul line.

In the second half, Charlotte went to the line 18 times, hitting 13 free throws, while the Hokies were limited to four free throws on seven attempts.
