KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan defeated Virginia Tech, 75-54, in men's college basketball action Saturday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Mich. At University Arena. Tech falls to 5-5 on the season, while the Broncos move to 7-2 overall.

Tech got off to a slow start, shooting just 37.0% in the first half and trailed WMU, 38-23, at the half. Tech made a couple of small runs in the second half, but was unable to cut the lead below double figures. The Broncos outrebounded the Hokies, 36-25 and outshot Tech, 50.0%-42.2%.

Senior guard Brian Chase and sophomore forward Dimari Thompkins scored 10 points each to lead the Hokies. Mike Williams led WMU with 18 points and Robby Collum added 16 points for the Broncos.

Tech arrived at the team hotel at 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning, after having to bus from Chicago's O'Hare Airport when its flight to Kalamazoo was delayed, and then canceled, due to snow. Tech was unable to practice on the game floor prior to arriving at the arena at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday for the 2 p.m. tip-off.

The Hokies do not play again until Monday, Dec. 30, when they host Towson at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
