Men's Basketball Falls in Finals of Carrier Classic
Brian Chase named all-tournament

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Virginia Tech lost to Syracuse, 88-68, in the finals of the Carrier Classic Saturday night in the Carrier Dome.

Virginia Tech, now 2-4 overall, placed five players in double figures, paced by Brian Chase with 15 points. Alex Martin came off the bench with a career-high 13 points, four rebounds and four assists. Carlos Dixon, Jon Smith and Chris Exilus each added 12 points for the Hokies.

Tournament MVP Damone Brown and DeShaun Williams each had 26 points to lead the Orangemen. Syracuse, ranked 20th in the AP poll and 19th in the coaches poll, is now 7-0 overall. The game does not count in BIG EAST standings this season.

The Hokies' Brian Chase was named to the all-tournament team. Tech returns to action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum against Elon.
