WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech lost to William & Mary, 60-52, in men's college basketball action Saturday night at William & Mary Hall.

The Hokies, now 4-3 overall, trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half and was not able to come back from a 28-13 deficit at the intermission. Tech made a run at the Tribe in the opening minutes of the second half, cutting the lead to 34-30 with 11:18 remaining in the contest on a three-point field goal by Brian Chase. W&M, now 1-4 on the season, pushed the lead back to double figures and held off a late Tech rally for the win.

Carlos Dixon led the Hokies with 12 points and Bryant Matthews added 11 points, all the in second half. Philip McCandies scored nine points and grabbed a team- and career-high nine rebounds, with eight points and seven rebounds coming in the second half. Sherman Rivers led the Tribe with 18 points and Adam Hess added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Tech outshot the Tribe for the game, 33.3%-32.7% and each team committed just nine turnovers, but W&M hit 16 of 22 free throw attempts and made eight of 23 three-point field goals attempts. Tech shot just three of 24 from three-point range. The Hokies made just five of 30 field goal attempts in the opening period.

Tech continues this two-game road trip on Monday night, as they travel to East Carolina for a 7 p.m. contest.
