Collins records career-high with 32 points

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech shot 64 percent from the field in the second half and ran past the Dukes of James Madison, 77-58, at the JMU Convocation Center on Monday afternoon.
Coleman Collins registered a new career-high with 32 points, including 18 points in the first half. Deron Washington scored 19 points for Tech and Jamon Gordon scored seven points and led Tech with seven rebounds and 10 assists. Juwann James was the only JMU player in double figures, with 17 points.
The Hokies shot 53.8 percent in the first half and took a 38-22 lead into intermission before hitting 16 of 25 shots in the second half, for 58.8 percent for the game. Tech held JMU to just 36.8 percent from the floor.
Tech forced JMU into 17 turnovers, while committing just eight turnovers. The Hokies made just one of seven three-point field goal attempts, but held the Dukes to 14 two-point field goals.
With the win, the Hokies improve to 10-4 overall, while the Dukes fall to 3-7 on the season. The win closes out the Hokies' 2005-06 non-conference schedule with a 10-3 non-conference record, its best out of conference win total since also claiming 10 non-league wins in the 1995-96 season.
Virginia Tech returns to ACC action on Saturday night, as it travels to Tallahassee, Florida to face the Seminoles of Florida State at 7 p.m.
