Vassallo Earns ACC Honor
Freshman forward named ACC Freshman of the Week
January 30, 2006

Virginia Tech forward A.D. Vassallo has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, as selected by a panel from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Vassallo, a freshman from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, recorded career-highs with 29 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in registering his first career double-double in the win at Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon.

The 29 points scored by Vassallo is the most by a Virginia Tech freshman since Dale Solomon scored 33 points and Old Dominion on Dec. 16, 1978. It is the most points scored by a freshman in an ACC game since Chris Paul of Wake Forest scored 30 points against Maryland in the 2004 ACC Tournament.

The Hokies, now 11-9 overall and 1-6 in league play, return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum against Georgia Tech.
