BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech guard Zabian Dowdell has been named the ACC Player of the Week, for the week ending Jan. 14, 2007. The award is selected by a panel of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Dowdell, a senior from Pahokee, Fla., averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as Virginia Tech posted wins over UNC Greensboro and No. 1 North Carolina this past week. He had 17 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 74-51 win against the Spartans Wednesday in Greensboro. In Saturday's 94-88 victory over the Tar Heels, the senior guard had a game-high 23 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. For the week, Dowdell was 11-of-19 from the field, including six-of-eight from three-point range.

This is the second time this season that a Hokie has earned the honor. Jamon Gordon was named ACC Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 24. This is the first time that Dowdell has received the award. He leads the Hokies in scoring, at 17.0 points per game.

The Hokies return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Florida State. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
