March 26, 2007
New York, N.Y. - Virginia Tech guard Zabian Dowdell has been named as an honorable mention All-America selection by the Associated Press. The AP All-America teams are selected by a panel of media members from across the country.
Dowdell, a senior from Pahokee, Fla., averaged 17.4 points, 2.1 steals and 3.1 assists this season for the Hokies. An All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team selection, Dowdell was a two-time Player-of-the-Week selection in the league. He was also named to the ACC All-Defensive team for the second consecutive season. He helped lead the Hokies to a 22-12 overall record and the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 11 years.
Dowdell completed his Virginia Tech career sixth on the school's all-time scoring list, third in steals and sixth in career assists. He averaged 14.6 points per game for his career and started 118 of the 122 games he played as a Hokie.
Earlier this month, Dowdell was named first team All-State by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Dowdell is the first Hokie to be named honorable mention AP All-American since Bryant Matthews made the team in 2004.
