Greenberg named ACC Coach of the Year
Second award in four seasons for Hokie mentor
March 11, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Seth Greenberg has been selected the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year, in a vote by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

This is the second time since joining the ACC that Greenberg has been named Coach of the Year by the league's media association. He was ACSMA's Coach of the Year in 2005, the team's first year as a member of the ACC, when the Hokies were the fourth seed in the 2005 ACC Tournament. The last coach to win the award at least twice in a four-year span was Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who won the award three times between 1997 and 2000.

The Hokies finished the regular season 18-12 overall and 9-7 in ACC action. The team, a preseason pick to finish 10th in the league by ACSMA, finished in fourth place and received a bye in the first round of the 55th annual ACC Tournament, to be held March 13-16 at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, N.C. This marks the third time in Virginia Tech's four years as a member of the ACC that the Hokies have earned a first-round bye in the tournament.

Greenberg enters the ACC Tournament with a career record of 298-238 in 18 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He is 85-63 in his five seasons as the Hokies' head coach, including a 59-18 mark in home games. The Hokies feature one of the league's youngest rosters, with eight newcomers, including six scholarship freshmen. Virginia Tech's A.D. Vassallo was named to the All-ACC second team this season.

The Hokies, the fourth seed, return to action on Friday, March 14 at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament against the winner of the #5 Miami vs. #12 NC State game on Thursday.
