Work on Cassell floor completed

In addition to getting a new basketball practice facility, which will be opening in a matter of days, both the men’s and women’s basketball programs will be playing on a refurbished floor with a new paint scheme this upcoming season.

Work began on the floor earlier this week, with workers stripping off the polyurethane and paint down to the natural wood of the floor. Then they applied two coats of new polyurethane before painting a new logo at center court and applying new paint and new lettering on the baselines. Once that dried, they applied two more coats of polyurethane.

The cost for the project ran between $18,000-20,000. R. L. Dresser, Inc., out of Raleigh, N.C., was the main contractor, with Garvey Flooring as the subcontractor.

No one will be allowed on the floor until Aug. 20. It will be ready for the volleyball team’s season opener on Aug. 28 against Liberty.
