Chaney has shoulder surgery
Sophomore forward sitting out season due to transfer rules

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech forward Allan Chaney had surgery on a torn labrum in his left shoulder on Friday.

Chaney, a sophomore from Baltimore, Md., is sitting out the 2009-10 season after transferring to Virginia Tech from the University of Florida. He suffered the injury in practice and underwent surgery on Friday afternoon at Montgomery Regional Hospital by Dr. Jim Lebolt.

“I am disappointed for Allan for having to miss this season of hard work due to his torn labrum,” head coach Seth Greenberg said. “He has been a model student and teammate. I know he has the character, work ethic and attitude to rebound from this injury. He decided to have this surgery now so that he can fully rehabilitate during the course of the season and be ready this spring for individual workouts.”

The Hokies open the 2009-10 regular season against Brown in the first round of the Philly Hoop Group Classic at 7 p.m., in Cassell Coliseum on Nov. 15.
