Delaney named ACC Player of the Week
Junior guard earns final regular season ACC weekly honor
March 8, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech guard Malcolm Delaney has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, for the week ending March 7, 2010, in a vote by a committee of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Delaney, a junior from Baltimore, Md., led the Hokies to a pair of victories to help Virginia Tech clinch a bye in the first round of the upcoming ACC Tournament. On Wednesday night, Delaney scored 21 points to lead the Hokies past NC State in their home finale. In the regular season finale win at Georgia Tech on Saturday, Delaney led all scorers with a season-high-tying 32 points and nine assists.

Delaney earns the award for the second time in his Virginia Tech career. He is also the third Hokies to win the honor this season, making the Hokies the only ACC team to have three different players win the award this season.

Earlier in the day, Delaney was named a unanimous first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection. He led the league in scoring and in 20-plus points games this season.

The Hokies are the fourth seed in the upcoming 2010 ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Tech received a first round bye and will begin play Friday at 2 p.m.
