The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team was selected 23rd in the USA TODAY/ESPN coaches’ preseason poll, released Thursday afternoon.
This marks the Hokies’ first appearance in the poll since the end of the 2006-07 regular season. Tech is one of three ACC schools in the poll, led by Duke at No. 1 and North Carolina at No. 9. 2010-11 Virginia Tech opponents Kansas State and Purdue are No. 3 and No. 8, respectively.
The USA TODAY/ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 31 head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The Hokies open the season on Nov. 12 against Campbell in Cassell Coliseum. Tip-off is set at 7:30 p.m.
