#22/24 Hokies fall at #3/3 Kansas State, 73-57

MANHATTAN, Kans. – Virginia Tech held a lead well into the second half, but was unable to hold on and fell at #3 Kansas State, 73-57, on Tuesday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum.

The Hokies, now 1-1 on the season and ranked #22 in the AP poll and #24 in the coaches poll, took a lead on a three-pointer by Malcolm Delaney to open the second half and held a 40-38 lead with 14:05 on a bucket by Delaney. Kansas State then finished the game on a 35-17 run for the victory.

Kansas State, now 2-0 on the season, was able to get the Tech frontcourt in foul trouble during the game and won the battle of the boards, 46-37. Tech could manage just 34.5 percent from the field, including 33.3 percent in the second half. The Hokies did block seven shots by the taller Wildcats.

Delaney led all scorers with 22 points and Dorenzo Hudson added 12 points. Freshman Jarell Eddie came off the bench with eight points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Jacob Pullen, Rodney McGruder and Jamar Samuels each scored 13 points to lead Kansas State.

The Hokies return to action on Sunday, as they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to face UNC Greensboro. The game will tip-off at 1 p.m. and will be played in the Greensboro Coliseum, site of the 2011 ACC Tournament. The game will be broadcast live by CSN Washington and NESN.
