Hokies open 76 Classic with 72-56 win over Northridge
Hudson leads all scorers with 20 points

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Virginia Tech jumped out to a 20 point halftime lead and never trailed, as the Hokies defeated Cal State Northridge, 72-56, in the first game of the 2010 76 Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center on Thursday afternoon.

The Hokies, now 3-1 overall, scored the game’s first seven points on route to a 38-18 lead at the intermission. Tech lead 20-10 at the eight minute media timeout in the first half and finished the period on an 18-8 run.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” head coach Seth Greenberg said. “ I thought, in the first half, we were really good, defensively.”

Tech shot better than 50 percent from the field for the second consecutive game and held CSUN to 33.3 percent from the field in the contest. The Matadors won the battle of the boards, 37-33, but the Hokies forced them in to 25 turnovers in the game.

Dorenzo Hudson led all scorers with 20 points, including 12 points after intermission. Malcolm Delaney added 17 points and seven assists and Jeff Allen recorded his second double double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Victor Davila registered his first double-figure scoring game of the season with 10 points.

Rashaun McLemore with 17 points and Vinnie McGhee with 14 points led Northridge, now 1-3 on the season. Lenny Daniel came off the bench to record a game-high 13 rebounds for CSUN.

The Hokies return to action on Friday, as they will play Oklahoma State at 1130 a.m. Pacific time. The game will be aired on ESPN.
