ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Virginia Tech guard Dorenzo Hudson will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season due to an injury to his right foot. Hudson will be eligible to receive a medical redshirt and will return to the Hokies for his senior season in 2011-12.
Hudson, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., originally injured the foot last season and had difficulties with the injury during the summer and into the current season. He saw an orthopaedic specialist earlier this week that recommend surgery for the injury.
“I am extremely disappointed for Dorenzo,” head coach Seth Greenberg said. “He has worked very hard to become an outstanding player and leader for this team. But his long-term health is of the utmost importance and the medical staff believes this is the best course of action for him. I know that he will continue to be a valuable part of this program for the remainder of the season and will come back stronger than ever next season.”
Hudson is currently third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game. He has played in nine of the team’s 10 games this season, starting eight times. He was a third team All-ACC selection last season, when he was second on the team in scoring at 15.2 points per game.
