Hokies fall at Florida State, 86-75
Bibbs leads Tech with career-high 25 points

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Virginia Tech lost 86-75 at Florida State in ACC men’s basketball action at the Donald Tucker Center on Tuesday night.

The Hokies, now 8-7 overall and 0-2 in ACC play, trailed 53-45 at the intermission, despite shooting 51.9 percent from the field in the first half, including 61.9 percent from three-point range. Tech cut the lead to as few as six points in the second half, but could get no closer. The Hokies held FSU to just one field goal in the final four minutes, but the Seminoles made eight free throws during that stretch on route to the 11-point victory.

Justin Bibbs led all scorers with a career-high 25 points and teammate Adam Smith added 24 points for the Hokies. Devin Wilson dished out seven assists, with no turnovers for Tech. The Hokies committed a season-low-tying six turnovers in the loss, but were out rebounded 42-22. This is Bibbs’ fourth 20-plus point game in this, his freshman season, while Smith reaches at least 20 points in three games this year. Bibbs had 22 points in the Hokies’ last game, against Syracuse on Saturday.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes led four Seminoles in double figures with 22 points. Florida State improves to 9-6 overall and is now 1-1 in conference action.

The Hokies take the weekend off before returning to action next Tuesday night at nationally-ranked Louisville. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m., and will be shown on regional sports networks.
