LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Virginia Tech lost to No. 6/7 Louisville, 78-63, in ACC men’s basketball action Tuesday night at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville. The Hokies fall to 8-8 overall and 0-3 in ACC action, while Louisville improves to 15-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the opening minutes and never trailed in the game, taking a 43-24 lead into intermission. Tech trailed by as many as 29 points in the second half, but made a run late in the game and cut the final score to 78-63.

Adam Smith led all scorers with 19 points and Justin Bibbs added 15 points for the Hokies. Ahmed Hill scored 14 points for Tech. Smith was five-of-seven from three-point range, as Tech shot 42.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Hokies committed just eight turnovers in the game, but Louisville won the battle of the boards, 40-33, despite Virginia Tech’s 14 offensive rebounds.

Tech returns to action on Sunday night, as they travel to No. 15/16 North Carolina. The game will tip-off at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU. Tech returns to Cassell Coliseum on Thursday, Jan. 22, as they will face nationally-ranked Notre Dame.
