Sharp Shooting Carries Hokies Past Duquesne, 93-79

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Shawn Browne scored 18 points, and Virginia Tech was 8-for-16 from long range Saturday en route to a 93-79 victory over Duquesne.

The Hokies (10-16, 5-11 Atlantic 10) opened the game with a 20-7 run capped by consecutive 3-pointers by Eddie Lucas, the last with 11:23 left in the half. Duquesne (11-18, 5-11) trailed 41-22 at the half and never got the deficit under double figures in the second half.

Freshmen Roland Roberts and Jenis Grindstaff added 16 points apiece for the Hokies, while Myron Guillory had 13. Lucas finished with 11 points, hitting 3-of-6 3-pointers.

Kevin Price led Duquesne with 17 points, Mike James had 16, Courtney Wallace 15, and Kevin Shand 12. Duquesne was plagued by 19 turnovers, 12 in the first half when the Hokies were 7-for-12 from 3-point range.
