GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Virginia Tech shot the best round of the tournament on Sunday, a four-under-par 284 and won for the second consecutive year at the Furman Intercollegiate at the 6,800 yard, par-72 Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. Tech finished the event with a four-over-par 868, four strokes better than Coastal Carolina and host Furman.

Junior Brendon de Jonge (Harare, Zimbabwe) claimed medalist honors in the event by shooting a three-day total of five-under-par 71-69-71=211. De Jonge won the event by one stroke over Jonathan Hill of East Carolina and David Sligh of Furman.

Junior Chris McKeel (Wilson, N.C.) finished tied for 10th with a two-over-par 77-73-68=218. His final round 68 was low round of the tournament for the Hokies. Seniors Brian Krusoe (Northfield, Ohio) and Johnson Wagner (Garrison, N.Y.) tied for 17th place. Wagner shot 77-71-73=221 and Krusoe shot 74-73-74=211. Sophomore Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) tied for 44th at 82-72-72=226. Sophomore Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.), competing in the event as an individual, tied for 52nd place with a 78-79-71=228.

The Hokies were tied for sixth place at 299 after the first round and were in third place entering Sunday's final round at 584, just one stroke behind co-leaders Furman and Coastal Carolina. Furman and Coastal Carolina tied for second place at 872. East Carolina finished fourth at 880 and Wofford was fifth at 885

Tech returns to action on April 6-7 at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Tech, which won last year's event, becomes just the sixth team to repeat as tournament champion.
