March 26, 2005 GREENVILLE, S.C. - Virginia Tech shot a second round 293 and is tied for fourth place after two rounds at the 36th annual Furman Intercollegiate at the 6,800-yard, par 72 Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C. Tech, which was in seventh place after the first round on Friday, has a two-round total of 583. Junior Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) shot a two-under-par 70 on Saturday and is tied for ninth place at 142. Dane Burkhart and Scott Brown of team leader USC-Aiken are tied for the lead at eight-under-par 136. Kraner has shot par-or-better in both rounds. Redshirt senior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) is tied for 27th at 147 and sophomore Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) is tied for 38th at 148. Freshman Nick MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 66th place at 152 and junior Sam Nicholson (Augusta, Ga.) is tied for 84th at 154. Three Hokies are playing the tournament as individuals. Freshman Will Oldham (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 16th at 145 and sophomore Carl Wakely (Cardiff, Wales) is tied for 71st at 153. Freshman Chad Fultz (Staunton, Va.) is tied for 89th at 156. USC Aiken leads the event with a two-round total of 564, 11 strokes better than UNC Charlotte. Round-one leader Coastal Carolina is third at 577, six strokes ahead of Tech and UNC Greensboro. Charleston Southern is sixth at 586. The 20-team tournament concludes Sunday morning with a 7:45 a.m. start. Tech finished second in the event last season following three consecutive championships at the Furman Intercollegiate.
