    GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Virginia Tech shot the best round of the day on Saturday, a 289 and have a two-day total of six-over-par 582 and is in second place at the Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,800 Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

    Sophomore Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) fired the best individual score of the day, a two-under-par 70 and leads the event by one stroke over T.J. Blandford of Furman.

    Redshirt junior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) is tied for sixth place at 145 after shooting a one-under-par 71 on Saturday. Senior Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) is tied for 13th at 147 and freshman Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) is tied for 18th at 148. Freshman Carl Wakely (Cardiff, Wales) is tied for 91st at 158.

    Sophomore Sam Nicholson (Augusta, Ga.) and redshirt senior Matt Hollerbach (Tulsa, Okla.) are playing the tournament as individuals. The duo is tied for 35th place at 151.

    Host Furman leads the tournament at two-over-par 578 and lead the Hokies by four strokes. Michigan is third at 594 and UNC Greensboro is fourth at 600. UNC Charlotte is fifth at 601. Charleston Southern, Elon, Coastal Carolina, UNC Wilmington and Northwestern round out the top 10 of the 20-team tournament.

    The tournament's final round will be played on Sunday. Tech is the three-time defending champion of the event, which has hosted some of the top names in collegiate golf over the years. No team had ever won the event three straight years before the Hokies pulled the feat last season. Next on the schedule for the Hokies is the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. on April 3 and 4.
