Hokies Finish 12th at Intercollegiate
Wise ties for 11th individually

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.. - Virginia Tech shot a final round 293 and finished tied for 12th at the weather-shortened Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate at the 7,002, par-72 Devil's Ridge Golf Club in Holly Springs, N.C. on Saturday afternoon.

The tournament was suspended midway through the second round on Friday. The third round was cancelled and the second round was completed on Saturday. Virginia Tech entered the day in 12th place. Tech shot an opening round 295 and was in 13th place after the first round. The Hokies finished with a two-round total of 588.

Redshirt senior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) shot a two-round total of three-under-par 141 and finished tied for 11th place overall. Aron Price of Georgia Southern shot a 14-under-par 130 to win medalist honors by six strokes over Taylor Crosby of North Carolina State and Michael Schachner of Duke. Wise shot even-par 72 in the first round and followed that with a three-under-par 69 in the final round.

Junior Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) finished at one-under-par 143 and was tied for 20th place overall. Freshman Nick MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) tied for 49th at four-over-par 148. Freshman Chad Fultz (Staunton, Va.) tied for 74th place at 156 and sophomore Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) tied for 76th place at 157.

Duke won the abbreviated event at 16-under-par 560, one stroke better than Wake Forest and Georgia Southern. NC State was fourth at 567 and Virginia was fifth at 568. North Carolina, Tulsa, Florida State, Kansas and Tennessee rounded out the top ten. Colorado was 11th at 584, four strokes ahead of the Hokies and North Florida.

The 15-team event featured seven ACC teams. The 2005 ACC Championship will be played next weekend, April 15-17 at the Old North State Golf Club in New London, N.C.
