Stinnett Earns NCAA Berth
Hokie senior to compete in East Regional at Yale
May 10, 2004 BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech golfer Ryan Stinnett has been selected to compete as an individual at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf East Regional at the Yale Golf Club in New Haven, Conn. May 20-22. Stinnett, a senior from Amherst, Va., won medalist honors at the 2004 BIG EAST Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., on April 25. He is currently ranked 79th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Stinnett is one of six individuals in the East Regional and one of 18 individuals in the entire field. He led the Hokies this season in stroke average. Playing his best golf at the end of his senior season, Stinnett placed in the top 20 of each of the team's final six events and placed in the top 10 of four of those tournaments. He is currently second in career stroke average at Virginia Tech. Stinnett will tee off at 1:12 p.m. on Thursday, May 20 from the 10th hole and at 9 a.m. Friday, May 21 from the first hole. This is the fourth consecutive season that Stinnett will compete in the NCAA regionals. He and the Hokie team won the automatic bid from the BIG EAST Conference each of the previous three seasons. Virginia Tech will host the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships June 1-4, at the Homestead Resort's Cascades Golf Course in Hot Springs, Va.
