NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Ryan Stinnett shot an opening round 11-over-par 81 and is tied for 129th place on Thursday after the first round at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf East Regional at the 6,749-yard, par 70 Yale Golf Club in New Haven, Conn.

The senior from Amherst, Va., is one of six individuals in the East Regional. He began play on the 10th hole Thursday afternoon. Rhode Island's Kenneth Fahey and Bill Haas of Wake Forest lead the individuals at three-under-par 67. Florida leads Georgia by one stroke in team competition. The top 10 teams and two unattached individuals advance from each of the three regional sites to the nationals.

Stinnett will tee off at 9 a.m. in Friday's second round from the first hole. His Saturday tee time will be at either 9 or 9:09 a.m. from the 10th hole. Live stats can be viewed on a link from Hokiesports.com.

This is the fourth consecutive season that Stinnett is competing in the NCAA regionals. He and the Hokie team won the automatic bid from the BIG EAST Conference each of the previous three seasons.

Virginia Tech will host the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships June 1-4, at the Homestead Resort's Cascades Golf Course in Hot Springs, Va.
