Stinnett Improves in Round Two
Hokie senior shoots 72 at NCAA Regional

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Ryan Stinnett shot a two-over-par 72 and is tied for 96th place after Friday's second round at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf East Regional at the 6,749-yard, par 70 Yale Golf Club in New Haven, Conn.

The senior from Amherst, Va., one of six individuals in the East Regional, began the day in 129th place after a first round 81. He has a two day total of 13-over-par 153.

Bill Haas of Wake Forest leads the tournament at three-under-par 137 and is one stroke ahead of Camilo Villegas of Florida. Penn State leads day-one leader Florida by one stroke and North Carolina by two strokes in the team competition. The top 10 teams and two unattached individuals advance from each of the three regional sites to the nationals.

This is the fourth consecutive season that Stinnett is competing in the NCAA regionals. He and the Hokie team won the automatic bid from the BIG EAST Conference each of the previous three seasons.

Virginia Tech will host the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships June 1-4, at the Homestead Resort's Cascades Golf Course in Hot Springs, Va.
