De Jonge Wins East-West Match
East downs West, 44-37

COLUMBUS, Oh. - Virginia Tech's Brendon de Jonge defeated Jason Allred of Pepperdine, 2 1/2-1/2, in the final match of the 2002 Golf Coaches Association of America East-West All-Star Matches Monday morning at the OSU Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

With the victory, de Jonge, a junior from Harare, Zimbabwe, helped lead the East to a 44-37 victory against the West in the 18-match tournament, the first event at the 2002 NCAA Golf Championship. In the other half of this pairing, the West's Bret Guetz of TCU defeated the East's Brandt Snedeker of Vanderbilt, 2 1/2-1/2.

The Hokies, who finished eighth in last season's championship, play practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday and open play in the championship at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The 72-hole event concludes on Saturday.
