Tech Golf Ranked 10th Nationally
    Hokies coming off best season ever

    BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech golf team is ranked 10th in the 2001-02 Golfweek preseason poll. This is the first major poll to be released for the 2001-02 season.

    Tech returns all five competitors from the 2000-01 team, which finished the season with an eighth place finish at the NCAA Golf Championship in Durham, N.C. Last season, the Hokies won a school-record six events, including the 2001 BIG EAST Conference championship. The Hokies finished 18th in Golfweek's final 2000-01 poll.

    Tech opened the 2001-02 season last week with a seventh place finish at the 2001 Topy Cup U.S.-Japan Intercollegiate Golf Championship in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. Tech will compete in the 13th Ping/Golfweek Preview Invitational Sept. 28-30 at the Ohio State Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, site of the 2002 NCAA Golf Championship. Tech is one of 15 schools to be invited to compete in the event.
