Hokies Tie for 13th at The Ridges
    Wise ties for 10th individually

    JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 885 and finished tied with host East Tennessee State in 13th place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges at the 7,147 yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Johnson City, Tenn. on Sunday afternoon.

    Redshirt senior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) led Tech with an even-par 216 and finished tied for 10th place overall. Philip Pettitt of Tennessee won medalist honors with an eight-under-par 208, defeating runner-up Anthony Kim of Oklahoma by two strokes.

    Sophomore Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) was tied for 25th at 219. Junior Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) tied for 50th place at 224 and freshman Chad Fultz (Staunton, Va,) was 66th at 227. Freshman Will Oldham (Richmond, Va.) finished tied for 68th at 230.

    Tennessee swept both team and individual titles. The Volunteers won the event at 10-under-par 854, three strokes ahead of second place TCU at 857. Clemson was third at 861 and day-one leader Oklahoma was fourth at 870. Wake Forest, LSU, South Carolina, Alabama and Virginia finished 5th through 9th and Duke and North Carolina tied for 10th place. Twelveth-placed Kansas was one stroke behind the Blue Devils and Tar Heels and one stroke ahead of Tech and ETSU.

    The Hokies were tied for 11th entering the final round and shot a 295 on Sunday. The 15-team field featured 10 nationally-ranked teams and seven Atlantic Coast Conference schools. This was the Hokies' first golf tournament as a member of the ACC.

    Tech's next event is the Franklin Street Partners Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Oct. 8-9.
