Hokies Finish 18th at The Ridges
    Stinnett ties for 47th individually

    JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. -- Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 915 and finished 18th at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges at the 7,147 yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. on Sunday afternoon.

    Senior Ryan Stinnett (Amherst, Va.) led Tech with an eight-over-par 224 and finished tied for 47th place overall. Bill Haas of Wake Forest won medalist honors with a 10-under-par 206, defeating runner-up Martin Rominger of South Carolina by four strokes.

    Freshman Ryan Sypniewski (Radford, Va.) was tied for 55th at 226, following a final round two-under-par 70 Sophomore Joel Kraner (Dublin, Ohio) tied for 77th place at 232 and redshirt junior Scott Wise (Vinton, Va.) finished in 87th place at 239. Freshman Carl Wakely (Cardiff, Wales) was tied for 92nd place at 243. Sypniewski's final round 70 was the Hokies low round of the tournament. Tech shot a final round 304 on Sunday.

    Florida won the event at 10-under-par 854, five strokes of second place TCU at 859. Defending national champs Clemson and Southern California tied for third place at 871 and South Carolina rounded out the top five in fifth place at 872.

    The event featured one of the strongest fields of the fall season. Twelve of the 30 teams from last season's NCAA Championship competed in this tournament.

    Next up for the Hokies is the Preview, by Ping and Golfweek, on Sept. 21-22 at the Homestead Resort's Cascades Course. Virginia Tech is hosting the event, which features the top teams from last season's NCAA Championship on the same course that will host the 2004 NCAA Championship.
