Virginia Tech Announces the Launch of hokiephotos.com
Images of athletes, coaches, and venues available for first time
November 5, 2004

The Virginia Tech athletics department is pleased to announce the launch of www.hokiephotos.com. The hokiephotos.com site is a joint venture between Tech and Replay Photos, a North Carolina-based company that specializes in reproducing old athletics photos. This new partnership will allow Replay Photos to access Virginia Tech's inventory of pictures taken over the years and pass them on to Hokie fans all over the world.

This is the first time ever that fans will have the opportunity to own a part of the school's photographic history. Previously, all photos have been used for in-house purposes such as media guides, the web site or hokiesports the newspaper.

Replay Photos also represents schools with such prestigious histories as Duke, Ohio State, and the University of North Carolina. Sue Harnett, the president of Replay Photos and a former basketball player at Duke University, expressed excitement at bringing Virginia Tech on board and having the opportunity to work with the Hokies.

"Virginia Tech has a history just as rich as the other schools we've dealt with and the Hokie fans are legendary," Harnett said. "So obviously we're very excited about representing Virginia Tech and being able to make these images available to their fans. An added bonus is that a significant percentage of the sales will go back to Tech to support the Athletic Department."

These photos will be available in 8" x 10", 11" x 14" and 16" x 20" sizes. Replay Photos also offers numerous matting and framing options.

"Others have approached us about this sort of thing, but from the beginning, Replay Photos has demonstrated superior professionalism and superior quality in their operations and products," Tech Senior Associate Athletics Director David Chambers said.

"If there is a Hokie fan out there searching for a gift idea this holiday season, we hope they'll give us a look," Harnett said.

Be sure to check back often as photos will be continuously added to hokiephotos.com in the upcoming weeks and months. Because of Virginia's right of publicity laws, Replay Photos is required to have permission from Tech's former athletes and coaches before offering a photo that contains their image. As authorizations are received, Replay Photos will make images of that individual available. You may e-mail Replay Photos if you have a special request or an idea for the website. We feel confident, that you will enjoy viewing the hokiephotos.com gallery!
