Hokies 14th after two rounds at Inverness

September 11, 2006 TOLEDO, Ohio - Virginia Tech shot a two-round total of 626 and is in 14th place at the sixth annual Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational at the 7,255-yard, par 71 Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio on Monday afternoon. Redshirt sophomore Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) leads the Hokies with a two-round total of nine-over-par 151. He is tied for 16th overall. Jon McLean of TCU leads the tournament with a total of two-under-par 140. Sophomore Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) is tied for 22nd at 153 and redshirt freshman Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Tex.) is tied for 55th at 158. Junior Nick MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 69th at 164 and junior Chad Fultz (Staunton, Va.) is tied for 72nd at 166. TCU leads the event with a two-round total of 26-over-par 594, eight strokes ahead of Coastal Carolina and Southern California. Georgia and defending champion Florida are tied for fourth at 606, Texas A&M is sixth at 608 and UNLV is seventh at 611. Kent State and host Toledo are tied for eighth at 613 and Nebraska is 10th at 616. Florida State is 11th at 618 and Illinois and Michigan State are tied for 12th at 625, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. New Mexico is 15th at 638. The Hokies finished the first round in 14th place at 318 and improved 10 strokes to shoot 308 in the afternoon's second round. The tournament concludes on Tuesday morning, when the final 18 holes begin at 8 a.m. on the course that will host the 2009 NCAA Championship.
