October 15, 2006 JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - Virginia Tech shot a final-round 294 and finished with a three-round total of 894 and finished 12th at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges at the 7,147-yard, par 72 Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. on Sunday afternoon. Junior Nick MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) finished tied for 28th at 223. Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State won medalist honors at five-under-par 211, three stokes ahead of Philip Pettitt of Tennessee . MacDonald was tied for the lead in the event following the first round. His first round two-under-par 70 was the Hokies low round of the tournament. Freshman Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Tex.) finished tied for 33rd at 224 and junior Jurrian van der Vaart (Almelo, The Netherlands) tied for 37th at 225. Sophomore Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) tied for 54th at 228 and redshirt sophomore Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) tied for 63rd at 231. Weaver's final round one-under-par 71 was Tech's low round of Sunday. Tennessee won the tournament with a three-round total of five-over-par 869, one stroke ahead of host ETSU. North Carolina was third at 874, Alabama was fourth at 875 and Wake Forest was fifth at 882. Auburn was sixth at 884, South Carolina was seventh at 885, Kent State and Virginia tied for eighth at 891 and NC State was 10th at 892. TCU finished 11th at 893, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. UAB was 13th at 896, Pepperdine was 14th at 913 and Kentucky was 15th at 934. The Hokies were one of three teams still on the course in the second round when play was halted Saturday night due to darkness and was forced to finish the second round early on Sunday morning. The first round Saturday morning was delayed due to frost. The Hokies continue the fall season Oct. 27-29 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
