BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech golf program has announced that Blake Redmond has signed a national letter of intent to attend Virginia Tech and play golf for the Hokies in Fall 2008. Redmond, from Sugar Land, Texas, attends Clements High School. Earlier this year, he won the Texas State 5A High School Championship with scores of 68 and 65, finishing ahead of the current US Junior Amateur champion by three strokes. He also finished fourth in the AJGA Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands, and sixth in the AJGA Fidelity Investments Junior Championship at Redstone. Redmond qualified for the US Junior Amateur Championship in 2006 and 2007, advancing to match play this year at Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta, Missouri. He is currently ranked 41st nationally for the class of 2008 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. "Blake brings a proven record of success on the national level," Virginia Tech head coach Jay Hardwick said. "We expect him to come in and contribute right away, and have no doubt that he will be an outstanding addition to our team, our university and our community when he arrives next fall."
