BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech golf team will travel to Macon, Ga., to compete in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship Oct. 11-13 at the par 72, 7,128-yard Brickyard at Riverside golf course.
The 15-team tournament boasts a field that includes eight of the top 25 teams in the nation, according to the Golf World/Nike coaches poll. Four of the eight teams, Georgia (4), Clemson (6), Chattanooga (9) and Florida State (10) are ranked in the top 10. Virginia Tech is one of six ACC teams in the event.
The Hokies’ team will consist of senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.), sophomores Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) and Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.), redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) and redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Tex.) in the starting line-up. Weaver and Oldham tied for 10th at the VCU Shootout last week and Weaver tied for sixth at the season-opening Wolverine Intercollegiate. Weaver is currently third in the ACC in stroke average this season.
Play in the 54-hole event will begin on Saturday morning. The second round will be played on Sunday and the final round is set for Monday morning. Joining the Hokies in the tournament are host Mercer, Penn State, Chattanooga, Wake Forest, Georgia, Florida State, Duke, Clemson, Charlotte, Augusta State, Kennesaw State, Georgia Tech, Oregon and Hartford.
