MACON, Ga. – Virginia Tech shot an opening round 11-over-par 291 and is in third place at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship at the par 70, 7,128-yard Brickyard at Riverside golf course in Macon, Ga.
Senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) leads the Hokies, shooting a two-under-par 68. He is in second place, one stroke behind Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech.
Redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) and sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) each shot a 74 and are tied for 25th place. Redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Tex.) shot 75 and is tied for 37th and sophomore Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) shot 77 and is tied for 58th.
Georgia Tech opened with a two-over-par 282 and leads Clemson by eight strokes and the Hokies by nine strokes. Georgia is fourth at 292, Chattanooga is fifth at 295 and AugustaState, Hartford, PennState, WakeForest and Duke are all tied for sixth at 297. FloridaState, Charlotte, KennesawState are tied for 11th at 299, Oregon is 14th at 303 and host Mercer is 15th at 307.
The second round will be played on Sunday and the final round is set to tee off on Monday morning.
