Hokies tied for eighth at Landfall

Landfall Tradition


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot an opening round 313 and is tied with host UNC Wilmington for eighth place after the first round in the Landfall Tradition at the par-72, 7,130-yard Country Club at Landfall’s Nicklaus Course on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) shot a three-over-par 75 and is tied for ninth. Vince India of Iowa shot four-under-par 68 for the individual lead.

Senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) shot 76 and is tied for 17th place and sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) shot 79 and is tied for 32nd place. Freshman Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) shot 83 and is tied for 45th and sophomore Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) shot 90 and is in 58th place.

Iowa was the only team under par on Friday, shooting a two-under-par 286. The Hawkeyes lead Tulsa by 22 strokes. Xavier and East Carolina are tied for third at 309 and VCU and William & Mary are tied for fifth at 310. Davidson is seventh at 312, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Seahawks. Georgia Southern is tenth at 314, Wisconsin is 11th at 317 and Western Kentucky is 12th at 324.

The second round will be played on Saturday and the final round will begin at 8:30 a.m., on Sunday morning. This is the Hokies’ final event of the fall schedule.
