PINEHURST, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a second round 293 and is tied for second place at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate by Gatorade at the par-72, 7,035-yard Centennial Pinehurst #8 course in Pinehurst, N.C. on Monday afternoon. The Hokies have a two-round total of 583 and are tied with Penn State for second at the three-day event.
Senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) is tied for second place entering the final round. He shot a three-under-par 69 on Monday and his two-round total of 141 is one stroke behind leader Nathan Sutherland of Miami of Ohio.
Sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) is tied for fifth place at two-under-par 142, after posting a 72 and redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Texas) is tied for 35th at 149. Redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) is tied for 48th at 151 and sophomore Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) is tied for 88th at 157.
Freshman Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) is playing the event as an individual and is tied for seventh place. He completed his first round this morning with a two-under-par 70 and followed that with a 74 for his even-par 144 total.
Michigan State shot the tournament's best round with a second round 285 and leads the event at 580, three strokes ahead of the Hokies and Nittany Lions. Minnesota and VCU are tied for fourth at 589, Southern Mississippi is sixth at 591 and Miami of Ohio is seventh at 593. Eastern Kentucky and UNC Wilmington are tied for eighth at 594 and Old Dominion is 10th at 595. Twenty teams are competing in the event, which wraps up on Tuesday morning.
