WALLACE, N.C. – Virginia Tech will compete in the 2009 River Landing Intercollegiate this weekend at the River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C. This year’s tournament will be played on the par 72, 6,942 yard River Course, with 36 holes to be played on Friday and the final 18 holes on Saturday.
This year’s field features 15 teams, including seven from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Besides Virginia Tech and host NC State, the field includes Duke, East Carolina, Hartford, Houston, Kansas, Maryland, Memphis, North Carolina, Rice, Tulsa, Virginia, Wake Forest and Michigan.
This year, the teams play 36 holes on Friday. Tee times to begin at 7:30 a.m. on the 1st and 10th tees, and the afternoon round is set to start around 12:30 p.m. The Hokies are grouped with Rice and Duke and will begin play at 8:15 a.m., from the first tee.
Tech is led by senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) who is ranked 38th nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin ranking and 31st in the Golfstat.com ranking. He will be joined by sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.), redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Texas), redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.), and freshman Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) in the Virginia Tech line-up.
The Intercollegiate has been held in the Triangle area for 17 years, but was moved to River Landing each of the last two years. Starting in 2010, the annual event will be held at the brand-new Lonnie Poole Golf Course, located on NC State’s campus.
