WALLACE, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a two-round total of five-over-par 581 and is in sixth place at the 2009 River Landing Intercollegiate at the par 72, 6,942 yard River Course of the River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C., on Friday afternoon. Tech shot a 291 in the morning's first round and improved to 290 in the afternoon round.
Redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Texas) and sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) each shot 36-hole totals of one-under-par 143 and are tied for 10th place. They are five strokes behind leader Matt Hill of host NC State.
Freshman Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) shot 145 and is tied for 20th place and senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) is tied for 46th place at 150. Redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) is tied for 52nd place at 151.
NC State leads the tournament with a two-round total of 563, seven strokes ahead of Duke. Wake Forest is third at 574, Michigan is fourth at 577 and Tulsa is fifth at579, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. North Carolina is seventh at 589, East Carolina is eighth at 591, Virginia is ninth at 593 and Memphis is 10th at 594.
The final round of the 15-team tournament will be played Saturday morning.
