NORFOLK, Va. -- Virginia Tech golfers Drew Weaver and Marshall Bailey have been selected to the 2009 Virginia State Golf Coaches Association All-State teams. Weaver was named to the first team and Bailey was selected to the second team.
Weaver, the 2007 British Amateur Champion, recently graduated from Virginia Tech. The High Point, N.C., native led the Hokies in scoring average and final round scoring average this season. He played in the 2007 British Open and the 2008 Masters. Weaver finished fifth at the 2009 ACC Men’s Golf Championship and finished 12th at the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf Southwest Regional in Austin, Texas in May. A first-team All-ACC selection in 2009, Weaver qualified and made the cut at the 2009 U.S. Open at the famed Black Course of Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., in June.
Bailey is a rising junior from Fincastle, Va., and was second on the team in scoring average and final round scoring average in the 2008-09 season. He had five top 20 finishes, including two top five finishes this past season. He finished 20th at the 2009 ACC Men’s Golf Championship in April.
Weaver is a three-time first-team selection to the team and was a second-team selection as a freshman in 2006. This is Bailey’s first appearance on the team.
